چکیده

Measurements of real (ε′) and imaginary (ε’’) parts of the complex dielectric constant (ε*) of soil with varied moisture content have been made at 9.44 GHz using infinite sample method. The electrical properties of dry soil samples are found to be in good agreement with the earlier work. The values of ε′ and ε′′ first increase slowly and then increase rapidly with moisture content. From this data, the ac conductivity and relaxation time are also reported in the present paper. The result shows the change in electrical properties of soils before and after the addition of water. These results provide a basis for using ground-penetrating radar or other high-frequency electromagnetic sensors in the detection of soil moisture content.

Effect of Chemical Fertilizers on Dielectric Properties of Soils at Microwave Frequency

Fertilized black soil samples are prepared by mixing desired amounts of fertilizers in the black soils having 10% gravimetric moisture content. Two black soil samples were collected from two different locations of Maharashtra State (India). Three different chemical fertilizers viz., Urea, Di-Ammonium Phosphate and Potash are used. Measurements of complex dielectric constants of these soil sampl...

Dielectric mixing model for the estimation of complex permittivity of wet soils at C and X band microwave frequencies

A dielectric mixing model has been developed to calculate the complex permittivity of wet soils at 5.65 GHz (C-band) and 9.5 GHz (X-band) microwave frequencies. The model considers the complex permittivity of dry soil as initial parameter. The complex permittivity of wet soil has been estimated in terms of the complex permittivity of dry soil, the complex permittivity of water at a given microw...

Effect of Calcium Carbonate on Microwave Dielectric Behavior of Soils

An attempt has been made to study the impact of calcium carbonate on soil dielectric properties. The dielectric constant (ε') and dielectric loss (ε'') of soil with increasing percentage of calcium carbonate are measured at 7.0 GHz. These measurements are carried at room temperature. The J-band microwave setup with slotted section and a crystal detector is used for measurements. The two point m...
